“Prevention is better than cure”
The line truly holds a different meaning in the world of agriculture.
In an effort to diagnose, control, overcome and hinder the pest and disease infestation in Guava orchard, we (Team VNR Nursery Pvt Ltd) take a step ahead to share practical experiences which the team has gained by the field visits to the orchards of VNR-Bihi Growers (After Sales Service). Here we try to explain both management of diseases and their prevention.
The team, after visiting more than 1000 VNR-Bihi orchards in 19 states of India, observed different diseases in the orchards. We try to mix our technical academic knowledge with our field experiences to find out practical and easy methods of prevention and management of diseases.
During our visit we found that the knowledge of the subject in farmers is mostly guided by the agro input sellers. We have seen lots of disparity in dosages of the required agro chemicals, time and method of its application.
We believe that our effort will be helpful to the guava growing community in a fruitful way.
For prevention from diseases, one has to keep in mind the following steps-
- Sanitation
- Irrigation
- Fertilization
The best way to control any infestation is by controlling its entry and the first step to achieve is by keeping the orchard clean. Farmers have to keep a good care regarding the sanitation of their orchard. Sanitation refers to the cleanliness of an orchard. No or less weeds, Proper and timely removal of plant and fruit debris from the field. Overall the floor of the orchard should be clean.
The quality of irrigation water is to be good with low salinity content (TDS <1000).
Plants too require food for their life processes so, good quality, proper and right amount of fertilizers should be given to it at right timely intervals for healthy growth and development.
Here we are trying to figure out most common diseases in VNR Bihi orchard encountered during field visits in India.
