Causal organism

It is caused by the fungus Phomopsis annonacearum

Symptoms

  • Purple to black, irregularly shaped spots ranging from small specks to large blotches.
  • Spots have an indistinct feathered edge.
  • Tissue damage under the spots is no more than 10 mm deep.

Mode of spread

It is survived in mummified fruits and fallen leaves and transmitted from this site to other healthy plants.

Reason for severity –

Wet condition is favorable for this disease and it is mainly a problem in crowded orchards.

Management

  • Spray copper based fungicide or mancozeb 75% WP 2.5gm/ lit of water at 15 days interval.
  • Regularly monitor the diseases and remove dead twigs and mummified fruits from the orchard.
  • Follow proper plant canopy by following proper pruning and training to allow the proper air circulation.
